Katarina had a quite good run at the Eddie Herr Grade 1 this week!
- After the impressive, and dramatic, victory of Kat (seeded #10) vs. Jessi Robinson (USA - unseeded) 7-5, 6-4, in the Round of 64, Kat then went on to defeat (unseeded) Alexis H. Dorr (USA), with an even more impressive score of 6-4, 6-1, in the Round of 32. YEA and HOORAY!
- In the Round of 16, Kat (seeded #10) faced Madalina Gojnea (ROM - seeded #7). Well, this was a loss, 6-4, 6-2, so not an upset. It looks like, at least, a close and exciting first set, eh? Anyway: oh well - no biggie.
- This Tournament was a good step forward for Katarina in Singles, with play clearly validating her seeding.
- Kat also chose to play Doubles at this Tournament (which I think is a VERY GOOD THING!).
- The team of Katarina Zoricic/Stephanie Dubois (both CAN) was seeded #2 and faced the unseeded team of Angelina Gabueva (RUS)/Latrell A. Reed (USA) in the 1st Round (Round of 32).
- ZD handily defeated GR, 6-2, 6-0, then ZD went on to also handily defeat lucky-losers I-Hui Chang (TPE)/Daria Petrovic (ESP): 6-0, 6-3. Double YEA, and double HOORAY!
- In the 3rd Round (Quarterfinals) it was the Canadian team of Zoricic/Dubois vs. the Canadian team of Qualifiers Sharon Fichman/Melanie Gloria.
- Everyone seeing this match will forever scan every future draw sheet in their hands and go to the match with at least one Canadian player in it!
- Kat and Steph took the first set hugely: 6-1. Then the 2nd set went to 6-6 and FG took the tie-break: 7-5. The 3rd set went to FG: 6-4.
- Canada won! YEA! (Even so, oh well...)
- This was a good tournament for Katarina! If Kat can do this well at next week's USTA International Winter Championships, then that will also be good. If Kat can do better, that will be GREAT!
- Next week, Kat, HAVE FUN! And WIN!

This week, Katarina is at the USTA International Winter Championships - a Grade 1 Juniors Tournament in Key Biscayne, Florida, USA, North America, apparently playing Singles only.
- In 1st Round Main Draw, Kat (unseeded) faced Qualifier Ana Jerman of Slovakia.
- Kat won: 6-4, 6-4! YEA! (And a good show for the crowd, eh!)
- Next for Kat (2nd Round) is vs. the #6 seed: Sescioreanu Delia of Romania.
- If Kat can win this match, that will be GREAT! If she loses, then this is another "good" tournament.
- But players advance with GREAT wins - "good" tournaments are not real advances.
- Katarina is a player who is fully capable of GREAT wins - and serial GREAT wins!
- Kat can win all the way to the title of this Grade 1 tournament!
- WIN, Kat, WIN! And HAVE FUN!
- (Most important: take care, and be happy.)

Rain delayed Katarina's 2nd Round Singles match at the USTA International Winter Championships - a Grade 1 Juniors Tournament in Key Biscayne, Florida, USA, North America.
- It was Kat (unseeded) vs. the #6 seed: Sescioreanu Delia of Romania.
- Well: Delia got the win: 6-1, 6-4. Oh well... Not an upset, eh?
- So this was another "good" tournament for Katarina.
- A GREAT tournament next week at the Grade A Orange Bowl would be VERY NICE!
- WIN, Kat, WIN! And HAVE FUN, TAKE CARE, and BE HAPPY!

-
In the 1st Round Main Draw Singles at the Orange Bowl - a Grade A Juniors Tournament in Key Biscayne, Florida, USA, North America, Kat (unseeded) faced American Iris Ichim (also unseeded).
- Well, the 1st set went to 5-5, but then Ichim took that set 7-5, then the 2nd 6-2, to advance. Oh well...
- SO NOW: Kat is also playing Doubles (YEA!). Kat is teaming with also Canadian Stephanie Dubois.
- In 1st Round (Round of 32) the Canadian team of Zoricic/Dubois face the US team of Carly Gullickson/Neva Uberoi. Both teams are unseeded.
- WIN, Kat/Steph, WIN! And HAVE FUN, TAKE CARE, and BE HAPPY!

So then it was Doubles Time for Kat at the Orange Bowl (and Doubles Time is always a GOOD THING, even when Singles is still happening!).
- In 1st Round it was the Canadian team of Katarina Zoricic/Stephanie Dubois vs. the American team of Carly Gullickson/Neva Uberoi (both unseeded).
- Kat/Steph got the win in a big way: 6-3, 6-2! YEA!
- In the 2nd Round it was Kat/Steph vs. the also unseeded team of Alla Kudryavtseva (RUS)/Vojislava Lukic (YUG).
- This match was clearly a very exciting good show for the crowd. KL took the 1st set 6-2, but then the Canadians took the 2nd 6-3 to force a 3rd set. Then the 3rd set, however, went to KL in the closest set of the match: 6-4. Oh well...
- These 3 weeks of major Juniors tournaments for Kat have been mostly good signs for Kat's future. About a year ago Kat was playing in Grades 5 and 4 - these were Grades 1 and A. And appropriately Main Draw in each! That's quite a rise in just about a year!
- Meanwhile, Kat was unable to "breakout" and score any huge victories.
- Had she done that, that would have been nice (even GREAT!), but most careers in tennis are about hanging in there and making just occasional advances. Fast-movers tend to burn-out, or get career-ending injuries. Moving up gradually can get to the top ranks probably most surely and lastingly.
- Basically, though, it's all about HAVE FUN, TAKE CARE, and BE HAPPY!
- Next for Kat looks like it will be Main Draw slots at the Victorian Junior Championships, then the Australian Hardcourt Championships.
- It is summer "down-under" there at this time of year. Can any Kat-fans send me pics of Kat at a beach in her bikini there? YOW!
