2005 has been a VERY GOOD year for Katarina Zoricic!
- There have been many matches, with various results, but all have been PLAYED. DO IT, gal!
- There was a double-bagel loss and win - probably both "build character" equally. And there were many other matches...
- Of course, the "big news" of 2005 is that Kat is no longer a high-school player, but is now a College player.
- Katarina has had much success playing for the William and Mary Tribe. It seems much is expected of her, and that seems actually appropriate, and good!
- College, living away from home, is full of dozens of things which have nothing to do with tennis, and I hope at least most are FUN for Kat!
- PLAY ON, Kat, and HAVE FUN!

Lately, Kat and the Tribe have been at the ITA East Regionals at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York (one of America's many "kill on command" schools).
- Katarina has had some very nice victories, and the team has also done very well.
- This past Saturday, Kat got a nice 1st Round (128) Singles victory over Maryland's Jeanne Schwartz, 6-4, 6-1, and then another good victory in the 2nd Round (64) - this time over Julia Koulbitskaya of Penn: 6-3, 6-3. Good day, Kat!
- On Sunday, Kat had another winning day! In Singles, Kat humbled Dasha Cherkasov of Boston College with a 6-1, 6-0 thrashing in the 3rd Round (32), while in Doubles, the powerful team of Megan Moulton-Levy/Katarina Zoricic tore through 2 Rounds (to get to the Round of 16) with victories over Brown's team of Kelley Kirkpatrick/Ashley Pariser, 8-3, then Bucknell's Veronica Brown/Paulina Gamboa team: 8-2. YEA!
- So Saturday was 2 wins for Kat and Sunday was 3 - YES Monday was 4! In Singles, Kat posted two victories over nationally ranked players by defeating #78 Melissa Anderson of Harvard, 6-0, 6-3, and #31 Ramona But of Maryland, 5-7, 6-3, retired. Meanwhile, in Doubles, Kat/Megan won their 3rd Round (16) squeaker over Stephanie Schnitter/Eva Wang of Harvard, 9-8 (3), then dominated Boston College's Dasha Cherkasov/Lauren Krasnopolsky, 8-1, to advance to the semi's. YEA!
- Three days of all victories (9!) came to an end for Kat today. Oh well... In the Singles semi, Kat faced her teammate Megan Muth (ranked #46 nationally, and a very good player!) and it was a defeat for Kat: 6-1, 6-3. Oh well... In Doubles, Kat/Megan lost their semi to the Harvard team of Melissa Anderson/Elsa O'Riain: 8-1. OOPS!
- This tournament was 9 victories and 2 losses for Kat - that's good! (The team also did very well, with the Singles Final being Megan v. Megan, and the team winning!)
- PLAY ON, Kat, and HAVE FUN!

This past long weekend the Tribe was in Newport News, Virginia, at the Hampton Roads Invitational.
- On Friday, rain complicated the situation, resulting in some (or all?) matches being played inside. In the singles, Katarina posted a very impressive 6-2, 6-1 victory in the Round of 32 over Catherine Zawadski of Syracuse. YEA!
- But the very excellent doubles team of Kat/Megan (Moulton-Levy) lost a tough match, 6-4, to the VT team of Jessica Brouwer/Bethan James in the first round (Round of 16). Oh well...
- So Kat was down to just singles on Saturday, and, while the first set was probably full of much very good play by Kat (as the second set may well have been), the result was a 7-5, 6-1 loss to Virginia Commonwealth's Viktoria Konstantinova. Oh well...
- For this tournament, Kat has posted one ("dominating") win in singles, and a singles and doubles loss: 1-2. It is generally good to win more than you lose.
- It may be that much is (appropriately!) expected of Kat, and this past tournament was a bit of a "reality check" for her.
- PLAY ON, Kat, and HAVE FUN!

The second day of play at the Cissie Leary was not as kind to Kat as yesterday had been. Although she scored two more victories (YEA!), she also took her first two college losses. (Oh well...)
- In the 3rd Round of singles (Round of 16), Katarina won the 1st set 6-3, but then lost the 2nd set 1-6. This led to a tiebreak which was probably close and exciting, but which was won, 10-8, by the other player: Sydney Murray of Columbia. Oh well...
- Kat then "advanced" into the consolation, where she won (YEA!), 6-4, 6-3, over Penn's Alexis Plukas.
- In doubles, Kat and Megan got a nice quarterfinal win, 8-2, over Columbia's team of Angela Hendry/Lauren Shearer. (YEA!) But in the semi's, the team of Shannon Brown/Lynzee Kever of Marshall barely prevailed, 8-6, over Kat/Megan. Oh well...
- So Kat's play at this tourney is now over, but this was a very good first college experience for Kat!
- Three singles victories (and a loss), and two doubles victories, and a bye (and a loss), at least give Kat much credibility with her teammates!
- And the respect shown in the seedings is just icing on the cake!
- PLAY ON, Kat, and HAVE FUN!

Kat finally got a chance to play tennis for the Tribe team yesterday - and did very well!
- It was at the Cissie Leary Invitational in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
- Katarina, in her 1st college team tournament appearance, was seeded #4, which is both stunning and appropriate.
- The tournament has players from many schools, including William and Mary (obviously), Penn (it's their invitational), Princeton, Columbia, Harvard, Binghampton, Penn State, Temple, Arizona, Cleveland State, Cornell, Marshall, and Wisconsin. And Kat was seeded #4. WOW!
- Kat played 2 singles and a doubles (with Megan Moulton-Levy) and won them all! YEA!
- The singles victories were over Lauren Sadaka of Penn, 6-3, 6-2, in the 1st Round (Round of 64) and Alison Hashmall of Princeton, 6-4, 6-1, in the 2nd Round (Round of 32). Those are impressive scores! YEA!
- In doubles, Kat and Megan, seeded #1, drew a bye in 1st Round (Round of 32),
then defeated the Penn State team of Lauren Holzberg/Leyla Morzan 8-5 to advance
to the quarterfinals. YEA!
- Katarina has begun her college tennis career in fine form, winning 3 for 3 on her first day. SWEET!
- PLAY ON, Kat, and HAVE FUN!

The Tribe played the season's first matches for this team recently, at the W+M Invitational, and Kat was not a part of it, for some reason.
- Some Team players had some very impressive victories in this tourney, and maybe Kat was there cheering her team on.
- Maybe the Team will add Kat to the effort for the next event: the Cissie Leary Invitational, starting later this week.
- PLAY ON, Kat, and HAVE FUN!
